MilfordHorticultural &GardeningSociety was formed in January 1968 with four officers and six committee members elected. In the beginning there was only one annual show, nowadays we have three shows annually, Spring, Summer and Autumn, with cups, shields and certificates awarded for the best entries.
In 1974, the Society hosted BBC Gardeners Question Time, the waiting now is upwards of two years.
We currently have 220 members with a wide variety of garden interests in spite of many having small or no gardens, so no surprise that the Society is very much a social one.
We are a very active Society holding monthly meetings with guest speakers at the Milford Village Hall, at least one outing each year; this year we visited Parnham House and Gardens in Pulborough West Sussex.
We hold our annual AGM each November and a member's social evening each January with food a entertainment.
The Society regularly participates in the inter-village competition for the Close-Brooks cup, winning it ten times and hosting the event on a number of occasions.
